PadMapper on the iPhone

Making Apartment Hunting Suck Less, using the iPhone

(note: currently not iPod touch friendly)

So you've decided to step away from the computer and spend some time looking for an apartment by getting into the trenches and roaming the streets? Good luck to you.

But I can do more than wish you luck, I can give you a nifty app I made for the iPhone. It's called "Apartments for PadMapper". It's a lot like it's older brother, the webapp PadMapper.com, with a few changes:

So basically it's not that much like its big brother, except that it's also simple to use. When you fire it up, you just hit Fetch, and it fetches a list of the listings closest to you, and sorts them by distance you'd have to travel to get there. It makes it trivially easy to call to set up appointments... you just hit the call button, you don't even have to punch the numbers in. All you have to do is sit back and deal with the broker.

Please Note: this is not a mobile replacement/equivalent for PadMapper.com, it's a simple tool for finding places for rent near your current location and getting in touch with the lister. Set your expectations accordingly. That said, it's an early version - if you think of anything you'd like it to do, email me at padmapper@gmail.com, and I'll add it to my list of things to consider.

How to Get It

You can get it on the app store on your iPhone, or you can click here and get it from the iTunes store, to be synched to your phone. (Link requires iTunes)

There's also a free version called "Apartments by PadMapper Lite", which is the same, but without filters. Great for a try-before-you-buy or an I'm-too-cheap-to-pay-two-dollars.

Screenshots

As you can see, it's nothing fancy, just dirt simple and functional. There aren't even any apartment images (You'll be able to see the images of the apartment along with the rest of the original ad by hitting the Description button). As a result, it tends to be pretty fast.

Perhaps you have some sort of question that's not answered here? Those should be sent to padmapper@gmail.com.
